Travel resolutions for 2019


New Year’s Resolutions. Love them or hate them, goals and changes are likely on your mind at this time of year.

One thing we can all agree on: we want 2019 to be a little better. If you’re planning to travel in the new year, that’s an easy place to start.

No matter your reason for traveling, here are a few resolutions to improve your travel experience in 2019:

1. De-Stress Your Travel
Travel brings with it crowds, noise, and unexpected changes, but with a little planning you can minimize the stress:
  • Bring comfort with you. Regardless of whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, bring along something that will help you chill. This might be soothing music, a favorite travel pillow, essential oils, healthy snacks, or all of the above. Treat your travel time as relaxation time.

  • More importantly, be prepared to roll with the waves of change. Flight delays, inclement weather, lost luggage. These things can’t be anticipated in advance, and worrying about them will only cause more stress. Treat them as a normal part of travel.   • Use technology to chill. Mind full of all your travel details? Let your phone do the extra work. These relaxation apps can help you unwind, practice mindfulness, sleep better, and fit a little exercise into your day.

3. Include Family
Time apart can wear on your relationships. This year, do your best to include family.

  • Find time for long-distance recreation. Find an online game that you can play with your kids or your significant other. If there’s a show that you usually watch together, see if you can watch it wherever you’re staying and text or skype while you watch together.   • Send pictures! Even if it’s just a good morning selfie, those simple exchanges will brighten your day.
  • Plan a trip with family! If you’re a snowbird, maybe this means inviting some of the family to join you at your beach rental. If you travel a lot for business, maybe you can take the family to one of the places you’ve already been, and show them some of the sites you enjoyed.
4.) Try something new!
Finally, try something new. This could be as simple as sampling local cuisine (in Southern California you’ll find everything from Korean tacos to delicious dim sum and more!), or as adventurous as learning to surf. Come back from your trip with a new memory and a great story!
